Illustration Contexts module (DJ32021)
You will build on the skills you have acquired in Semester 1. You will explore illustration within a range of contexts
This is the semester 2 studio module for Level 3 Illustration. It will build on the skills acquired in semester 1 and provide you with a further insight into this commercial practice.
Projects will vary in design, format and duration and will explore illustration within a range of contexts.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- explore the practice of visual storytelling within a range of contexts
- research cultural, scientific, historical materials to uncover creative insights
- strengthen drawing skills and refine visual notetaking techniques
- retell stories visually in new and inventive ways
- utilise DJCAD facilities and workshops to broaden existing skill set
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- carry out research independently to inform ideas and solve creative problems
- interpret project materials more confidently and generate an appropriate visual response
- utilise a range of illustration-related media and techniques within the studio and specialist workshops
- produce visual work that can communicate effectively within a public arena
- understand the contexts for the work you wish to explore in your honours year
- manage workloads
- meet deadlines
- adapt to change
- clearly communicate your ideas in visual, spoken, and written forms
Assignments / assessment
- coursework (100%).
At the end of the module, you’ll submit a portfolio containing your project work. This will be based on the module briefs as well as research and development work.
This module does not have a final exam.
Teaching methods / timetable
Teaching happens on campus in the studio and includes:
- lectures
- group discussions
- critiques
- hands-on work
- online materials.
Outside of class time, you’re expected to take responsibility for your own learning. You will be encouraged to use resources like the library, workshops, and seek support from peers when needed.
