You will focus on the subject of colour as a means of expression and communication.

You will conduct research into colour and and will respond to art, design, and cultural contexts. This will allow you to conclude the module with a final piece in colour developed from your own choice of subject matter.

This module has a single project in it. You will be provided with abundant supporting material. This is intended to inspire you and to allow you to develop practical project work and effective research. As well as this, you will be provided with a written brief and an introductory lecture.

During the three-week project you will consider the associations, symbolism and complexity of colour. You will think broadly about the meaning, theory, and history of colour. You will also consider how its application can impact the outcome, going beyond just 'colourful'.

You will study examples of how artists and designers use colour and symbol in their work. You will consider the language of colour and what it can communicate and express for both designers and artists.
