Work Placement module (CS43001)
Gain real industry or research experience through a supervised summer work placement as part of your Computing degree at the University of Dundee
Work Placement provides you with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in industry or research, strengthening your career prospects upon graduation.
Before starting, you will agree a work statement with your academic supervisor and workplace supervisor, setting out the work to be undertaken.
During the placement, you will complete weekly reports critically reviewing their progress. At the end, a final presentation and a report from the workplace supervisor are submitted. Support for CV writing and report writing is available throughout.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- How to work effectively within a professional organisation
- Applying software engineering and development skills to a real industrial or research problem
- Writing professional workplace reports and reflective documentation
- Developing problem-solving, team working, communication, time management and independent study skills
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an ability to work effectively within one organisation
- Apply software engineering and software development skills to a real industrial or research problem
- Write professional reports

Assignments / assessments
Placement Assessment (Pass/Fail)
- Weekly workplace reports completed throughout the placement
- Final presentation reflecting on the placement as a whole
- Report from the workplace supervisor
This module does not have a final exam.
Teaching methods / timetable
