In this module you'll develop your skills in planning, undertaking and analysing research. This will be in a Health Professions Education context. You'll build on the knowledge and skills you have gained from previous modules.

You'll learn how to make recommendations for applying your research findings. This will help prepare you for disseminating your research. For example, this could take the form of poster presentations or submitting a paper. It will also help you focus your future research.

You'll explore how to work both on your own and as part of a research team.

What you will learn

In this module, you will learn about:

  • time management expectations, ethics and supervision arrangements
  • working on your own or as part of a research team
  • deconstructing and synthesising the literature related to your research topic
  • writing an appropriate introduction for a research paper
  • data collection, analysis, and presentation
  • developing and formatting a research paper
  • peer reviewing and responding to peer review
  • developing a poster presentation.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • plan and execute a significant project of research, investigation or development
  • select and apply method(s) to generate, collate and analyse research / data
  • bring together the main points from the literature, assessing the strengths and weaknesses
  • develop and report the dissertation write-up in a research paper, for a journal publication
  • design and develop a poster presentation
  • present and defend your chosen methods, analysis and conclusions
  • show your ability to work on your own or as part of a research team
  • present and illustrate the wider implications of your research findings.
