In this module, you'll learn about leading change in health professions education. You'll also learn how to develop educators in this sector.
You'll develop and lead your own change project. This will focus on the health professions curriculum. You'll also carry out an evaluation of the project.
You'll explore how to carry out critical analysis and apply current thinking. Your learning will cover both leadership and curriculum development.
What you will learn
In this module, you will learn about:
- key terms and concepts underpinning leadership, innovation, faculty development and curriculum change
- the principles of change management, strategic thinking and operationalising change
- leadership in various contexts (for individuals, teams and organisations)
- the educational change process
- developing an innovation, needs assessment, and delivering a plan for educational/curriculum change
- a range of tools and frameworks that can influence change
- engaging with educational and organisational frameworks/policies
- monitoring, enhancing, flexing to, and evaluating change processes
- developing as an educational change leader.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- appraise the relevant literature and theories on leadership, change management, and innovation
- apply the principles of leading innovation and change to curriculum design
- critique and differentiate the different types of leadership
- design and reflect on leading your own curriculum change project
- reflect on how you have developed as a leader, and identify future development needs.
Assignments / assessment
- an elevator pitch for your change idea (20%)
- a written report (80 %)
