This module will provide you with an understanding of the principles of technology-enhanced learning (TEL). You will have opportunities to experience a range of technologies used to facilitate different pedagogical approaches and to develop your own learning resource.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • explore TEL from the viewpoint of the learner, the teacher, the institution, and the sector  
  • learn about instructional design when developing online learning resources  
  • explore professional issues relating to online learning resources  
  • discuss the evaluation of online learning resources  
  • learn about legalities relating to online learning resources  
  • explore the current research arena  

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • critically evaluate current trends in TEL from the viewpoint of the different stakeholders  
  • critically evaluate a wide range of TEL tools and their application within health education  
  • develop original and creative responses to problems and issues related to their own context, implementing good technology-enhanced design processes  
  • critically reflect on the wider issues surrounding the use of technology in learning and teaching  
  • critically evaluate the role of TEL in research and scholarship 

Assignments / assessment

  • summative coursework (100%)
    • develop an online resource relevant to your specialism/profession and practice setting, using Microsoft Sway
    • 2,000-word critical evaluation of the design and choices made in developing the online resource
    • passing both components is required for completing this module
  • formative assignment
    • tutor feedback will be given on your planned resource
    • supports preparation for your summative assignment

This module does not have a final exam.

Teaching methods / timetable

200 hours of work is expected from you in this module. Taught activities will take up 40 hours of tutor-led teaching, including both group work and didactic sessions. The remaining 160 hours will be directed towards individual and collaborative study.
