You will be introduced to the skills required for successful postgraduate study.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- gain an overview of the online platform (VLE), its structure, content, and navigation
- meet your peer learners via the discussion forums
- learn about the Programme Regulations, Student Handbook, and Student Partnership Agreement
- explore skills for online learning, student-centred learning, and digital literacy. You will be able to discuss these with your peers
- learn about the resources available for online learning. This includes those within the VLE and the wider University
- undertake activities on literature searching and information retrieval
- learn about academic integrity. This includes appropriate referencing, plagiarism, and University policy on Academic Misconduct
- receive guidance on academic writing
- undertake activities relating to the assessment process. This includes:
- marking criteria
- submitting assignments using Feedback Studio
- understanding a Similarity Report
- accessing feedback
- the course’s approach to self-assessment and feedback dialogue
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- complete your online profile
- navigate the VLE
- access reading lists
- post to discussion forums
- know your rights and responsibilities as a postgraduate student
- recognise the learning skills required for online postgraduate study. You will also know where to seek support
- perform a literature search on a topic and write a short summary
- know where to find the assessment framework for the course. This includes the grading system
- upload an assignment to Feedback Studio, use a Similarity Report, and access feedback
Assignments / assessment
- formative assignment
- practise the skills introduced in this module. You will familiarise yourself with the submission process and similarity report
- find four different types of resources on a topic, produce a 100 words summary using APA citations and references, and upload it to Feedback studio
