Module code

CE52033

Estimating the environmental impacts of planned Civil Engineering projects is becoming increasingly important. We must, wherever possible, minimize any negative effects. This module looks at two ways to measure environmental impact:

  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
  • Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA)

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn about the key impacts arising from construction-related activities. You will also learn about the metrics typically used to measure them
  • Learn how to use EIA and LCA to shape decision-making in construction.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • identify likely environmental impacts from a given set of construction activities
  • conduct an EIA
  • conduct an LCA

Assignments / assessment

  • coursework (40%)
  • exam (60%)
