This module explores the concepts and tools of political marketing. These are used by political organisations including political parties, governments, and campaigns. They are also used by political practitioners including politicians, political advisers, and political consultants.

You will learn about topics such as:

  • political branding
  • political marketing communications
  • political marketing delivery

You will apply the concept of marketing to politics. You will develop research and advisory skills by assessing and making recommendations to political organisations.

This will improve your employability and open doors to careers in the public, government, political, and third sector.

  • explore strategies, concepts, and tools of political marketing and how they are used in a range of political organisations

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • show a detailed knowledge of the main approaches to political marketing
  • evaluate the uses and consequences of political marketing
  • assess real-life examples of political marketing
  • advise political organisations on future best practice

Assignments / assessment

  • 1,500-word individual principles report (30%)
    • In this, you will identify and explain the top 5 most important principles (e.g. a stage, criteria, or quality) in political marketing for political practitioners and organisations such as a politician, party leader, or prime minister.
  • 3,000-word individual advisory report (70%)
    • You will analyse the current political marketing effectiveness of a political practitioner or organisation and make recommendations to improve future practice.

This module does not have a final exam.
