​​Chemical Biology introduces you to the frontier of chemical approaches to biological research. You will study the design and application of key chemical biology tools including covalent inhibitors, fragments and chemical probes, activity-based probes, bifunctional molecules and PROTACs, molecular glues, protease mechanisms and deubiquitinating enzymes, and chemical genetics approaches.  The module develops your ability to apply organic chemistry knowledge to complex biological problems, building both your theoretical understanding and your analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • ​Explore cutting-edge chemical biology tools including covalent inhibitors, PROTACs, chemical probes and molecular glues 
  • ​Study how organic chemistry strategies can be applied to answer biological questions 
  • ​Develop problem-solving skills and the ability to critically evaluate chemical biology research

  • ​Demonstrate understanding of a range of chemical biology tools and their applications 
  • ​Apply organic chemistry concepts and strategies to specific biological research problems 
  • ​Critically analyse chemical biology research and communicate findings clearly​
