Global Health is delivered in two complementary units. The first, People, Policies and Systems, covers the geopolitical, economic, and technological forces shaping global health, including governance structures, universal health coverage, health policy development, and the effects of conflict on health systems.

The second unit, Advancing Global Health, takes a broader perspective. You'll study global epidemiology, the movement of people and goods, antimicrobial resistance, biodiversity, sustainability, and the cultural dimensions of health. You'll also engage with humanitarianism, social justice, and global citizenship.

Throughout the module, you'll build research skills, including how to design a study, conduct a literature review, and communicate findings in ways that are relevant to academic, professional, and community audiences.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Critique the meaning of Global Health and explain core global health issues and challenges
  • Analyse the global burden of specific diseases and the effects of health interventions in resource-poor settings
  • Evaluate different health systems and policies from a global perspective
  • Analyse how social, cultural, geopolitical, and environmental factors affect health
  • Apply analytical frameworks and principles of monitoring, evaluation, and accountability to global health challenges
  • Design a global health research proposal, applying appropriate ethical and methodological principles
  • Communicate research plans and findings clearly to diverse audiences
