This module will consider health and illness from a global perspective and consider the factors that influence it.
What you will learn
In this module, you will learn:
- about global disease and health epidemiology
- historical development of global health as a concept, movement and interdisciplinary medical speciality.
- factors that drive global health priorities, and the consequences of current unmet global health need
- health policy, health systems and their critical importance in determining health outcomes
- social dimensions of health and wellbeing
- impact of deprivation and inequalities on health
- how policy interventions may influence the impact of social determinants on disadvantaged population
- environment and health
- ethical issues associated with global health and healthcare.
- trends in globalisation, the role of global institutions and international law and human rights, and international development
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- understand and be able to explain some of the key challenges in global health
- describe, critically discuss, and analyse how each of these important drivers shape and influence global health trends and outcomes
