Educational Assistive Technology MSc Dissertation module (AC50003)
Undertake an Assistive Technology based research project that benefits your learning, your users, and/or your working context
Semester 2
This is an opportunity to put what you have previously learned into action. You will undertake a research project and try a new method of working. Alternatively, you can carry out research that supports your users, or develops the AT (Assistive Technology) practice within your working context.
The aim of the course is to give you experience in conducting an independent assistive technology within your work or placement environment. You will develop a project with academic staff to the particular needs of your environment.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- analyse appropriate areas of literature for a proposed area of research
- evaluate different methodological approaches, research techniques, and their application
By the end of the module you will be able to:
- apply an engaging writing style consistent with your dissertation topic
- show evidence of the craft of writing an extended and focused piece of work
- demonstrate the ability to manage yourself and your work in delivering a dissertation
- edit, draft, and present your final research text through constant review and responding to feedback from your supervisor
Assignments / assessment
- Dissertation (100%)
- Assessment focuses on the background and requirements of the project, design, implementation or other technical/educational work, evaluation or results, the quality of the project report and appendices, the student’s demonstration and project management. These are assessed from the written report/appendices and the project demonstration
This module does not have a final exam.
Teaching methods / timetable
- Regular meetings are held online (or in-person) with an academic supervisor, however, this module is independently led by the student.
- Support during these sessions is provided by Dundee academic staff, guest lecturers active in the field, and PhD tutors.
