The module aims to advance students’ skills as surgical trainers through exploration of their own teaching practice in relation to contemporary theory, principles and evidence which underpin effective teaching in the surgical context. 

By the end of this module, students should be able to:

  1. Critically appraise the roles, responsibilities, skills and attributes of the clinical teacher in relation to current approaches to supporting learning in the Surgical workplace.
  2. Critically appraise the practicality of theories and models of workplace learning in relation to clinical teaching and learning in the Surgical context.
  3. Articulate a critical stance by reflecting upon your own planning, preparation and delivery of clinically focused teaching activities.
  4. Recommend practical measures to critically analyse and integrate key trends and evidence-based strategies into your clinical teaching in the Surgical setting.
