MRes (Fine Art) at Masters Showcase
Individual creative practice plays a major role in our research culture along with collaborative and interdisciplinary research. Our research contributes towards a knowledge base that extends far beyond our traditional strengths in art and design disciplines.
You can find the work of our Fine Art MRes students on Level 6 of the Crawford Building.
Claire Marion Black, MRes (Fine Art) graduate
Showcase Spotlight: You, The Hero
Claire Black spent time in Naples researching the archive of Le Nemesiache, an Italian feminist artists’ collective, studying their films and performances alongside feminist film theory. She traced how Le Nemesiache used film, myth, and ritual, and how their performances build a feminist sense of self through both embodied gesture and the retelling of myths.
Claire used her research to create a series of artworks that translate these methodologies into her own practice. Her light-sign installation takes its cue from scraps of archival ephemera, and her video installation responds to Laura Mulvey's work on time and materiality in cinema. Across her research and these works, Claire is exploring how feminist cinema can operate as both analytical critique and self-expression, with the archive, theory, and making all feeding into one another.
