Volunteer on the School Volunteering Programme

The Careers Service are excited to offer students the opportunity to volunteer in either a primary or secondary school in Dundee and the surrounding area

Updated on 28 May 2026

Volunteering on the programme provides a fantastic opportunity to develop transferable skills, gain valuable work experience in a classroom setting, increase your network, enhance your CV and offer the chance to develop transferable employability skills.

To volunteer, you must:

  • be matriculated for the academic year 2026/2027
  • commit to 3-4 hours per week for around 30 hours in either Semester 1 or 2
  • commit to attending an in-person information session prior to the allocation of placements
  • provide three forms of ID for a PVG application for working with young people
  • sign a School Volunteering Programme Agreement Form which lays out the expectations of students whilst on placement

For Student visa holders, participation is likely to count towards their permitted term-time working hours under their visa conditions. The University’s Student Immigration Compliance Team can provide guidance and information to students regarding this matter.
