Apply for an undergraduate student Employability Bursary

Check your eligibility for the 2026 Employability Bursary and find out how to apply via the Careers Portal

Get up to £400 to support your career goals. Through the generosity of a Graduate Employer and our alumni community, the Employability Bursary helps undergraduate students cover the costs of new professional opportunities - from interview clothing to travel expenses.

  • Applications Open: Monday 11 May
  • Applications Close: Sunday 7 June at midnight

Decision Turnaround: Within 3 weeks of closing.

What’s covered? 

You can apply for up to £400 once per academic year to help with costs related to securing or attending a new employability opportunity, including:

  • travel to an interview or internship
  • professional clothing for an interview or internship
  • short-term accommodation to complete an internship
  • PVG or DBS checks

This isn't a complete list; all requests to help you improve your employability will be considered.

Who can apply

To be eligible, you must: 

  • be a current undergraduate student
  • not owe more than £200 to the University of Dundee
  • have a confirmed new opportunity (e.g., a secured internship or scheduled interview). You will need to provide evidence.  

Priority support

While all undergraduates are welcome to apply, we ring-fence a portion of the funds for students with the following additional characteristics:

  • home address is in a Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) Quintile
  • first generation of family attending university
  • care experienced students
  • disabled students
  • students from ethnic minorities.
  • students with caring responsibilities.
  • refugees or asylum seekers
  • estranged from their parents

Your student record will be used to verify these characteristics. The Careers Service may use this information anonymously in reporting on participation in this initiative.

What’s not covered

  • Expenses for short courses or professional development courses.
  • Costs related to academic activities (e.g., an internship that is a credit-bearing part of your course).

  • High demand: Funding cannot be guaranteed
  • Assessment: Your application is assessed solely on the information and evidence you provide. Please complete all sections carefully. 
  • Decisions are final: There is no appeals process
  • Impact feedback: Successful applicants must complete a short impact form. This helps us thank the alumni and employers whose donations make this fund possible.
