Apply to study abroad if you are a University of Dundee student

Guidance on applying to our exchange programme if you want to spend a semester or year studying abroad.

Before you apply

Before you complete and submit the application form, there a few things you need to consider.

Where to study abroad

View the study exchange opportunities as where you can study depends on your degree programme. Joint-degree and Liberal Arts students, please contact goabroad@dundee.ac.uk for advice on where you can study abroad. 

When you can study abroad

Select your School from the list below to find out when you can study abroad.

Discuss your options and get support

Meet with one of our Go Abroad Ambassadors to discuss your options for studying abroad and get support applying. You can do this if you attend one of our drop-in sessions.

Prepare a personal statement

You will receive a request to submit this after submitting your application form.  

Prepare a web-based portfolio (DJCAD students)

DJCAD students – prepare a web-based portfolio to include in your application. (12 to 15 images of your best work) 

Make your choices of partner institution

Select 5 suitable choices of partner institution and try not to get focused on only one option.  

The study abroad experience will allow you to develop a range of transferable skills and provide opportunities of a lifetime at any of the partners you choose. Some of our partners are very popular and spaces can be limited. 

After you have submitted the application form 

You will receive an automatic thank you message as receipt of your application that will include guidance on how to submit your personal statement.  

Subject to initial academic approval of your application, you will be invited to attend an interview with a member of the Go Abroad Team. The score that you receive during this interview will influence which partner institution you are allocated to. Further details on the interview will be provided to successful applicants.  

The application deadline is Sunday 14 January 2024 for any exchange during 2024/25

Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.

Study abroad journey/timeline

  • Attend promotional events in October/November for information on funding and the application process or express your interest in exchange by emailing goabroad@dundee.ac.uk

  • Submit your exchange application by the deadline and attend your Go Abroad interview.

  • If successful at interview and offered a space at one of our partner institutions, you then need to apply to the partner. If successful, you will receive an offer from the partner. 

  • Your school will continue to review your academic performance throughout the semester and will provide you with final approval if you meet their academic conditions. 

  • Attend Go Abroad pre-departure session

  • Go on your study exchange!

  • Academic transcript received from partner institution and academic recognition procedures.

  • Return to Dundee. Become a Go Abroad Ambassador (not compulsory).

    Progress your studies in Dundee.
