A Garment to Trust: Exploring the beauty of sustainable, durable design through surface experimentation and garment construction.

About

In an industry fuelled by overconsumption, ‘A Garment to Trust’ celebrates the beauty of the use and wear of a garment. Taking inspiration from the solidity and permanence of brutalist architecture, this collection centres around longevity, durability, and versatility. Drawing a parallel between the urban landscape and sustainable design.

Brutalism celebrates the use of quality materials and considered construction which has been applied to each stage of the design process, from initial visual research to the careful planning of the final collection. The project began with a deep exploration of the textures and compositions found in architecture through a series of drawings, collages and print samples. Beyond visuals, the project has been informed by market research into the fashion industry and sustainable developments in textiles. Researching utilitarian design and workwear highlighted the importance of having clothes that you can rely on and trust.

‘A Garment to Trust’ has been designed with the user experience in mind. Unisex, durable, waterproof and multi-seasonal; the garment is a sustainable, wearable solution for modern consumers to treasure for years to come.
