The work of a wannabe cinematographer. "Bystander" - a short film following a depressed amnesiac who wakes up in a parallel universe.

About

Portrait of Alec Angus.

Throughout my time at DJCAD, I've gone through a few different phases. What most of my work has in common is the creation of characters that I put the viewer in the shoes of. Suddenly, you're empathising with someone that doesn't exist, but who you can tell is suffering. Someone who is depressed, inspired, or being used as a means to an end.

My fourth year has been dedicated to my most ambitious project to date: my short film, "Bystander." The story follows a depressed young adult after they wake up in what they assume to be a parallel universe as they find a happy and confident version of their self. I personally believe this to be the natural progression of my storytelling passion, partly because I feel the audio-visual nature of film just makes sense for what I want to create, but also because I want to become a cinematographer.

Bystander - final film

This film, although completely fictitious, is very personal to me. For one thing, I juggled writing, storyboarding, directing, cinematography, sound, editing - basically everything except acting - myself. Whether that's ambition or madness, you decide. But for another thing, it's also my first step into the world of film. Creating this has been one hell of an experience, and although most of that experience has been stress, I can't wait to do it again.
