Dental graduates reunite to relive their Dundee days

Our 1970 and 1985 dental grads recently returned to Dundee to reconnect and reminisce with former classmates, and to revisit the place where it all began

Reunions are joyous occasions filled with celebration, nostalgia, and reestablishing old connections. They present the opportunity to relive shared experiences and bring back great memories forged during that formative stage in your life.

Every year, the Advancement team supports reunion groups, from dentists and medics to halls of residence and volleyball. Earlier this year, we’ve been delighted to welcome back our 1970 and 1985 dental graduates who have walked down the corridors of their time at Dundee and raised a glass to that seminal period of their university days.

Catching up with Ken Forrest, our Class of 1970 Reunion Organiser, he gave an account of what he and his former classmates and friends experienced during their trip back to the Dental School where they’d cut their teeth.

“Our afternoon entertainment was a trip to the Dental Hospital & School. We had tours of the building to see what had changed. The answer was "everything". Personally, I'm sure the building has shrunk! ”

"We had an illuminating talk by Professor Clarkson, enjoyed by all (including our partners), which was an eye-opener with regard to modern guidelines, use of evidence and frank and open discussion in the profession, which was probably frowned upon in the 1960s."

It had been 15 years since the class had their previous reunion, and Ken remarked at the end of a wonderful dinner at the Malmaison Hotel that they had agreed “we will meet again (somewhere) long before the passage of another 15 years."

In the Advancement team, we recognise that organising a reunion is a very time consuming task! This is why we stand ready to support groups like Ken’s to come back to Dundee.

We can support getting you tours of your old teaching haunts, help to reestablish connections with graduates far and wide across your year, provide logistical support including setting up registration, and, in the Class of 1970 Dentists, invite one of our expert academics to give a talk on how your course has changed in the time since you’ve been gone.
