How to embed transdisciplinary working in special educational settings
Dr Irina Roncaglia, PhD, BSc, CPsychol. AFBPsS. Irina Roncaglia Consultancy
This presentation explores how transdisciplinary working can strengthen transitions for autistic and neurodivergent children and young people across educational settings and throughout their learning journeys.
It frames transition support as a collaborative, person-centred process in which pupils, families and carers, educators, and specialists jointly identify environmental barriers, share expertise, and develop practical, predictable solutions. Drawing on provision mapping, structured methodologies, and wellbeing focused resources, the deck shows how evidence-informed support can be embedded in everyday practice through solution boxes, problem-solving forms, communication choices, sensory tools, and movement activities.
The central message is that effective transitions depend on personalisation, coproduction, predictability, and autonomy. When these principles are embedded through coordinated transdisciplinary practice, settings can promote belonging, competence, wellbeing, and more positive outcomes.
