Educational psychologists work collaboratively to enhance the wellbeing, experiences, and outcomes for all children and young people. They focus on prevention and early intervention, understanding how children and young people learn and develop.

Our course is designed for professionals aiming to qualify as practising educational psychologists. Upon completion, you will be eligible for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Throughout the course, you will develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills required to be an applied psychologist in educational settings. The programme has strong links with the Association of Principal Educational Psychologists (ASPEP) and Educational Psychology services across Scotland. It is funded by the Scottish Government and Scottish local authorities.

Programme Highlights:

  • Three core strands: academic learning, research, and practice, each with compulsory modules.
  • Practice-based placements in mainland Scotland, including both rural and urban Educational Psychological Services (EPS).
  • Experience in two different psychological services, gaining skills and knowledge in supervised practice.
  • Full-time participation over three years, with a blend of university teaching and practical placements.

Yearly Breakdown:

  • Years 1 & 2: Two days of university teaching and two days of placement each week, with additional block placements.
  • Year 3: Four days per week on placement, culminating in a research thesis and oral examination.
