Drawing on the University’s extensive collections of art and medical history, Phenomenal Bodies explores ideas of the body and disability, with a particular focus on our limbs. It showcases local innovations past and present, including the work of the Dundee Limb Fitting Centre and the Hands of X project, and celebrates local heroes including painter John C Gray, hillwalker Syd Scroggie and Olympic torch bearer Ronnie McIntosh.
The exhibition has been curated in association with Studio Ordinary at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and with support from the University of St Andrews, Tayside Orthopaedic Rehabilitation & Technology Centre, the Brittle Bone Society and local members of Blesma and Finding Your Feet.
Some of the artworks on show are part of the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design Collection cared for by the University of Dundee Museums, which is now Recognised by the Scottish Government as a Collection of National Significance.
The gallery is open Monday-Friday 9.30am-7pm (last entry is usually 5pm). There are ramps and accessible doors to enter the building and a lift to the gallery on the first floor.
