On the ninth anniversary of the creation of Heather H Yeung’s nine-metre long scroll-poem, Kennings - a celebration of the power of the waves and tides – Feral Press have created a book-version of this unique poem/artefact, titled Hoy Sound Unscrolled. In the unique setting of the artists’ book collection at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Heather will read from the new book and various other poems. The event will be accompanied by a small display of her artist’s books.
A Reader in Literature at the University of Dundee, Heather was born in Kirkwall and spent her early years between Orkney, Hong Kong and Bedfordshire. Her writing and art is strongly shaped by this mix of landscapes, languages and traditions. Her work takes inspiration from and brings together botany, ancient scripts, myth, music and the material craft of making poems as physical objects.
Heather’s artist books and poetry objects are held in the Scottish Poetry Library, the National Library of Scotland and our own artists’ book collection.
The event takes place in abcD (artists' book collection Dundee) in the Finlay Room of the Library in the Matthew Building, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. Ask at reception and you'll be directed to take the stairs or lift to level 4.
