How the School of Medicine process the personal information of participants in the MSC Clinical Academics Survey

How your information will be used

To monitor trends in clinical academic staffing as a basis for partnership between the NHS and universities; and to promote, maintain and improve high quality education, research and clinical practice in the UK. This will include publishing results of research into clinical academic staffing at a detailed statistical level and sharing data with the UK Medical Education Database (UKMED) for research and workforce planning purposes. ('the Purpose').

Personal data

The following information is shared with the MSC:

  • Unique Reference Number
  • HESA Staff ID
  • GMC Reference Number
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • FT/PT status
  • Grade
  • Nature of clinical contract
  • Basic salary and source of funding
  • Clinical excellence and distinction awards
  • Specialty name
  • Nationality
  • Comments

Special category personal data

  • Ethnicity.

Data controller

The University is the data controller for this information until it is shared with the MSC who will then become data controller for their limited purposes. The University has entered into a data sharing agreement with MSC to limit the use of your personal data to the stated purposes. IT have checked the security measures deployed by MSC to protect your data.

Lawful processing

For the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party; For the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller; For special category data - for statistical purposes in accordance with Article 89(1).
