Chair of Court Election 2025 - June Boyle

Read June's candidate statement

Thank you for taking the time to read this election statement. I was delighted to receive the news that the University was inviting me to potentially be the next Chair of Court. During the process, I engaged with senior leadership, staff, and students and acknowledge that this is an emotional and challenging period for everyone.

Governance & Court Effectiveness may have been less known before, but current circumstances highlight its importance. The next Chair of Court must inspire confidence, lead effectively, and work with the whole University to deliver a recovery plan that puts it on a path to future sustainability over the next three years.

Major areas of focus will include implementing strong governance and oversight, appointing the next Principal (which the University will play a central role in), engaging and listening to all the voices that shape Dundee, developing and overseeing the development and execution of a revised strategy. Work closely with University’s external communities, partners and key stakeholders and as a Court bringing a set of capabilities and expertise that can support the leadership, staff and students through and beyond this period of significant change.

Recent circumstances have made this a particularly traumatic and uncertain time. I personally want to ensure we care for people’s wellbeing and the healing necessary to rebuild confidence, capacity and capability to move the institution forward for the benefit of future generations who are yet to experience Dundee University.

I have 12 years relevant governance experience of the Scottish HE Sector, eight years as a lay court member followed by four years as Chair of Court at Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) until end July 2024. During this time, I served as Vice Chair, Chair of Audit & Risk Committee, member of the Finance & Property Committee, Nominations Committee, Remuneration Committee and Development Trust supporting students with bursaries and hardship allowances.

I have also walked alongside the other Chairs of Court and Universities and have a deep understanding of the challenges being faced across the whole sector. My current governance roles include Trustee with ShareAction who focus on responsible investment on behalf of people and plant; Chair of Aspect Employee Ownership Trust; Trustee with Hub for Success who focus on supporting care experienced people and member of the Business School Advisory Board at ENU.

Education, learning and teaching organisations, teams and leaders has featured strongly throughout my career and continues today as I advise, consultant and coach leaders and teams to navigate a constantly evolving environment. I have considerable senior leadership and business experience working with complex international organisations who have faced significant disruptions and transformations as well as strategic growth. Today, I run my own business where I focus on partnering with amazing people who have similar passions for enabling people and organisations to develop, grow and fulfil their potential.

Originally from Glasgow, I am married to Gill, and we have two sons and their two amazing girlfriends. All have Doctorates, and I am extremely proud that two of them studied at Dundee University.

I am passionate about the HE Sector and its role in both society and people’s lives. I would be honoured and excited to take on this role and give it my full commitment if appointed. I am eager to contribute to the future success of Dundee University.
