Too many promising students are missing out on a university education because of their background. Your support will give them the chance they deserve

Published on 14 March 2025

A university education can be the key to a better future, but for many aspiring students, the door to that future is closed. Access Summer School helps them open it.

Some students might have narrowly missed the grades they needed, while others are overcoming significant and complex personal challenges that have impacted their education.

They possess the potential; they simply need the opportunity.

Access Summer School is that opportunity. The programme offers a free, alternative path to university, helping deserving students pursue their academic goals and realise their potential. Alongside dedicated academic support, they get to experience university life and build lasting connections with their future classmates, so they’re not starting university alone.

“Having come from a socio-economically deprived area, I had absolutely no idea what university would be like. People like us aren't supposed or expected to go to university, so we're not taught about it, and Access Summer School bridged that gap.”

Darren, Access Summer School 2021

The University proudly supports Access Summer School, but rising costs now require an average of £1,000 per student. With hundreds of participants each year, we urgently need your help.

Give today to help a student unlock a world of opportunity

Whether you choose to support a full place or give what you can, your generosity shows a student they matter – you can be the reason they make it to university.

“When I was growing up I didn’t think University was for me. I left secondary school at 16. School was hard and our financial situation at home wasn’t great. Access Summer School gave me the opportunity to be supported to experience University and qualify for my undergraduate course.”
