Workshops during Freshers' Week
Whether you're an undergraduate or a postgraduate, Academic Skills offers a variety of ways to help you develop the skills you need for your studies.
We offer a selection of workshops to help you get started during Freshers' Week, and continue to offer individual, small group and whole class tuition in academic skills during your time at Dundee.
Gateway to Learning workshops take place during Freshers' Week. This series of workshops is designed to help you bridge the gap between school and university, and covers topics such as taking lecture notes, dealing with the reading material for your course and writing academic assignments.
Principles of Postgraduateness is a series of workshops taking place in Freshers' Week specifically for postgraduate students. The workshops will help you to engage with the advanced academic skills required at this level. Whether you're on a taught course or doing doctoral research, these workshops are also a great opportunity to network with other postgraduates and to discuss shared issues.
English Language Support
This is a part-time (typically three hours per week) course for University of Dundee students whose first language is not English. It runs for ten weeks in each of the two semesters. Registration for the programme is by means of an introduction and placement test. This will be held during Freshers' Week. There is no need to pre-register but you may sign up to reserve a place.
