Glaciology, geohazards, geomorphology: glacial, fluvial and mass movement processes; response of glacial environments to climate change, including water security, geohazards and risks posed by deglaciation.

Dr Cook is an environmental scientist working on the impacts of climate change, with a focus on mountain and polar regions. His expertise centres on glaciers and ice sheets and their response to global warming, as well as natural hazards such as floods, avalanches and landslides. He has extensive media experience.

Primary specialism in terms of water is the impact of mineral extraction/ mining on water resources, both in terms of the quantity of available water for other purposes (scarcity) and regarding any downstream and/or groundwater pollution.
