Teaching and assessment

for Teaching Qualification Further Education - TQFE Certificate

Date of entry

September 2020

You will be taught through a range of methods including:

  • directed online study
  • work-based activities
  • face-to-face contact at campus-based workshops
  • tutor support
  • blogs

You will have instant access to online materials at any time of day, allowing you to complete the well-structured course at your own pace.

TQFE-Tutor is our main communications and tutoring system incorporating a blog, email, and Twitter account, allowing the teaching team to provide you with timely responses to any queries.

You will also benefit from a range of social media and online conferencing tools.

The Professional Standards for Lecturers in Scotland's Colleges (2018) are embedded into this course.  These define the lecturer's role and contribution to their educational setting.

If you already have other teaching qualifications you may be able to apply for recognition of prior learning to give you advanced entry to this course.

You will be assessed through reflective assignments as well as two practical teaching observations. These will be conducted by University tutors and potentially a co-ordinator or mentor who works with you.

You will also be given a range of opportunities to complete your assignments in different ways such as creating an artefact, action research, or a new digital learning tool for example.

This will allow you to reflect on your practice and give you more contextualised professional learning.

Due to the method of assessment, international applicants are not eligible for GTCS (General Teaching Council Scotland) registration on completion of the course.

We're testing a new way of showing modules on the website

This list should give you a good idea of which modules you can take, however it may change before you begin your course, and may not show all available modules.
