Open Days give you the chance to see the facilities and hear, first hand, what the University of Dundee has to offer.

Our Art, Design & Architecture Open Days give you the chance to see the facilities and hear, first hand, what Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Architecture and the University of Dundee have to offer.

Meet with current members of staff and students, take a walk around our friendly campus in the heart of the city, experience our world-class facilities and soak up the atmosphere of Scotland’s top University for overall student satisfaction (NSS Survey 2015).

During your visit, there will be:

  • Subject specific presentations
  • Workshops
  • Demonstrations in departments
  • Tours of the campus and tours of the Art School.
  • Finance Talks

Open Day August 2015

The registration point on the day will be in the foyer of the Art School main reception, located in the Matthew Building. 

As well as the chance to meet staff from the subject areas you are interested in we have a range of talks, tours and workshops covering all aspects of your time in Dundee to enjoy.

We highly recommend you take part in a tour of our facilities and studios. Our tours are led by current students who can provide first-hand knowledge of what it is like to be a student at the University of Dundee.

 

Welcome Addresses

Professor Paul Harris, Dean, or Professor Jeanette Paul, Associate Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design will explore the important role art and design plays in the global economy and why Dundee is the place to be for aspiring artists and designers. Plus, they will introduce you to studying at the University of Dundee, alumni success stories and employability prospects for graduates.

 

Building Tours


Times; every hour from 11:00 until 15:00.

Tours of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design will set off from level 5, Matthew Building. This tour also incorporates a visit to the portfolio exhibition.

The tours will last approximately 1 hour.


Discipline-specific Tours


Tours of specific disciplines will leave from level 5, Matthew Building at the following times; 

Communication Design - 12:00 and 14:00

Contemporary Art Practice - 12:30 and 15:30

Design & Craft - 13:00 and 16:00

Social Digital - 11:30 and 15:00

Tours will last approximately 1 hour.

 

Architecture Tours


Tours of the facilities in Architecture will set off from level 5, Matthew Building after each Architecture talk.

 

Campus Tours


Times; every half an hour from 10:30 until 15:00.

On this tour you will get to see the fantastic facilities available to University of Dundee students, including the main library, the Institute of Sport and Exercise and the Students' Union among other highlights.

The tour will last approximately 45 minutes.

 

General Foundation Portfolio Exhibition, Level 2, Crawford Building

Your portfolio is an important part of your application to Art & Design disciplines at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. There is no prescriptive 'formula' to submitting a successful portfolio, however, this exhibition will provide an insight into how recent successful applicants have presented their work to us.

Information about the talks can be found in the discipline headings below:

Student Ambassadors will escort and direct visitors to the talks.

The Art & Design General Foundation talk will take place at 10:30 and 14:30.

Student Ambassadors will be on hand to direct visitors to the lecture theatre. 

We are the only university in Scotland to offer an Art & Design General Foundation first-year entry course. Find out how the course can help you discover who you are as an artist, the types of projects you will work on, progressing into second year and our application process.

The Social Digital talk will take place at 11:00 and 14:30.

Student Ambassadors will be on hand to direct visitors to the lecture theatre.

Our Social Digital programme comprises Digital Interaction Design, Interior & Environmental Design and Product Design. This talk will provide an introduction to the structure/content of each course and demonstrate how students have the opportunity to work together within shared modules to develop interesting and exciting interdisciplinary projects.

The Architecture talk will take place at 11:00 and 13:00.

Student Ambassadors will be on hand to direct visitors to the lecture theatre.

Thinking about studying Architecture? Find out more about the structure of the Architecture programme with the opportunity to ask questions followed by a tour of the facilities.

The Communication Design will take place at 11:30 and 13:30.

Student Ambassadors will be on hand to direct visitors to the lecture theatre.

Our Communication Design programme comprises Animation, Graphic Design and Illustration. It will explore the programme structure/content and how students work together to develop an understanding of wider communication design issues.

The Contemporary Art Practice talk will take place at 12:00 and 15:00.

Student Ambassadors will be on hand to direct visitors to the lecture theatre.

Our Contemporary Art Practice programme comprises Fine Art and Art & Philosophy. This talk will describe the cross-disciplinary and collaborative nature of the programme and how students enjoy the freedom to experiment and engage with a wide variety of art practises.

Study Abroad talk will take place at 12:00 and 1400.

Student Ambassadors will be on hand to direct visitors to the lecture theatre.

Find out how you can spend a study period in another country. This talk will cover the opportunities available to you.

There will be a Study Abroad information stand on level 5, Matthew Building.

The Design & Craft talks will take place at 12:30 and 15:30.

Student Ambassadors will be on hand to direct visitors to the leacutre theatre.

Our Design and Craft programme comprises Jewellery & Metal Design and Textile Design. This talk will give you an overview of the programme structure/content and how students use traditional techniques alongside new technologies in a creative and stimulating learning environment.

The Student Finance (Scottish & EU) talks will take place at 13:00 and 14:30.

There will be a SAAS (Student Awards Agency for Scotland) information stand on level 5, Matthew Building.

 

The Student Finance (England, Wales & NI) talks will take place at 13:00 and 14:30.
