How will you use my information?

The information you provide will be used by the University to deliver a confidential counselling service.

The personal data you provide will be used to contact you for further information, such as your availability, to update you if you are on our waiting list, or to offer you an appointment.

We will respect your preferences concerning the ways in which we may contact you. If you wish to update these at any time, please let us know by emailing counselling@dundee.ac.uk

Our counsellors keep written case notes which is a summary record of information shared by clients, by session, in order to deliver an ethical counselling service. These notes are stored anonymously and securely within the service for six years. They will then be destroyed.

Confidentiality is an essential part of the counselling process. Your information will only be shared

  • at your request
  • if there is a legal obligation to do so
  • if we believe you or someone else is in danger, we may share information with other University staff or other appropriate services e.g. your GP, NHS services, Police.

Non-personal statistical information you provide at Initial Assessment or Service Evaluation, may be shared within the University for the purposes of service analysis and improvement.
