Celebrating our Public Engagement will highlight why working with the public is important to the institution, as well as formally launching the University’s latest Public Engagement Strategy.

The online event takes place on Wednesday 28 April in two parts, between 11am – 3pm.

“Since the University was founded in 1881, we have strived to be a part of the fabric of the city,” said Professor John Rowan, Vice-Principal (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Wider Impact) at the University.

“As an institution we want to inspire others, transforming lives through the sharing and application of knowledge. Sharing our experiences and what we have learned creates a culture of curiosity, confidence and engagement, and that can benefit all of society.

“Public engagement is an essential part of our commitment to communicating with the people of Dundee, its surrounding communities and beyond. As we look to many more years of this work, we hope that people will join us to celebrate what we have achieved so far and what we aim to do in the future.”

The first session will focus on why public engagement matters, how it works and why the University does it. The University will also launch its Public Engagement Strategy before a Q&A session with questions from the audience, chaired by Dundee-born writer Lorraine Wilson, Head of Arts and Entertainment at DCT Media.

The second session will see the University crown the latest winners of the Stephen Fry Awards for Excellence in Public Engagement, celebrating the people and projects that engage with wider audiences, and the benefits they bring to society.

Both sessions are free to attend, though registration in advance is essential and tickets can be booked online.
