The annual inter-university sporting contest, which takes place on Wednesday 13 March, is the biggest amateur sporting event in Dundee’s calendar and for the first time in 12 years will include Judo matches.

This year’s sports include Badminton, Basketball, Football, Golf, Rugby, Netball, Tennis, Swimming and Volleyball.

Whilst the rivalry is very much of the friendly kind, competition for bragging rights is sure to be fierce with Abertay determined to exact revenge on Dundee, who are the current holders of the trophy.

Jacob McConkey, Dundee’s Sports Union President, said, “We have some eagerly anticipated match-ups in store and it will be fantastic to see how both sides fare, especially in the newly introduced Judo contest.

“Varsity has such a brilliant atmosphere and we welcome supporters from both institutions to come down and cheer for their teams.”

Fraser Allan, Sports Development Intern at Abertay University said, “Varsity is not only the highlight of the sporting year, it’s an occasion that creates lifelong memories.

“We look forward to renewing our friendly rivalry with Dundee, and hope to see supporters of both sides turning out in force.”

This year’s challenge takes place on Wednesday 13 March with around twenty contests taking place throughout the day, concluding with a dance performance and the Men’s basketball match at 5pm in Dundee’s Institute for Sport and Exercise.
