Hari won two awards for his teaching. These were in the Innovation in Teaching category and the Most Inspirational Teacher category (jointly won). These wins follow his award last year, where he also won in the Most Inspirational Teacher category.

The winners were announced by the outgoing student Vice-President for Academia, Stuart Murphy at a virtual ceremony on the DUSA Facebook page. Introducing the shortlisted nominees, he said of Hari, “Students from across the School [of Life Sciences] love his innovative teaching and have noted his passion for the subject as inspiring and really encourages them to get involved with studying the subjects with many wanting to take his modules. Students have said that he is very passionate about his subjects and puts in a lot of effort in making sure students understand his lectures. He often uses simple everyday examples to help us understand complex biological mechanisms.”

Students who nominated Hari across the two categories said, “Professor Hari Hundal is a credit to the School of Life Sciences with his innovative teaching skills and his dedication to students.”

Professor Hundal said during his acceptance speech, “I just want to say how extremely honoured and humbled I feel to not just have been nominated but to have been awarded two student-led teaching awards in the most inspirational teacher and in the innovation in teaching categories. I want to thank all of the students who nominated me for these awards and confess that having caught sight of some of the nomination comments was particularly touched to see how many of you were inspired by my teaching and how you felt it had added to your learning experience.”

350 students nominated members of University staff across a number of categories. Watch Hari's acceptance speech below:
