One of Britain’s most exciting contemporary artists will give the annual Christmas lecture hosted by the University of Dundee.
Emma Talbot, winner of the 8th Max Mara Art Prize for Women in 2020, will discuss her work in drawing, painting and sculpture at the Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art & Design (DJCAD) Christmas Lecture.
During the lecture, which takes place online on Thursday 17 December at 6pm, Emma will focus on the research, development and production of her recent work, including her forthcoming solo exhibition ‘Ghost Calls’ at Dundee Contemporary Arts that draws together the diverse elements of her practice to create an immersive experience in the gallery.
Emma studied at the Birmingham Institute of Art & Design and the Royal College of Art in London, where she is currently Tutor in Painting. Her work has been exhibited throughout the UK and internationally
Professor Anita Taylor, Dean of the School of Art & Design and the Chair for Emma’s lecture said, “We are delighted to have Emma Talbot join us for this year’s Christmas lecture. The opportunity to hear about Emma’s art practice, career, and her upcoming show at Dundee Contemporary Arts makes this an unmissable event.
“Everyone is welcome to join this free online event – and as Emma is a former selector of what is now known as the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize I am also delighted that this lecture coincides with the last week of the exhibition at Cooper Gallery.”
For her exhibition at DCA, when the world is more uncertain than ever, Emma Talbot imagines future environments where humankind has been flung out of a capitalist-driven society of digital technologies and must look towards more ancient and holistic ways of crafting, making and belonging to survive.
Free tickets to the Christmas Lecture taking place online at 6pm Thursday 17 December can be found here.
