Dr Abdullah Yusuf presented with Stephen Fry Award Certificate
Published On Mon 3 Feb 2020
Congratulations to Dr Abdullah Yusuf, Lecturer in Politics, who has won ‘Engaged Researcher of the Year 2020’ in the Stephen Fry awards.
Dr Yusuf has authored several articles on the plight of the Rohingya, who still remain exiled in refugee camps in Bangladesh after being forced to flee their homes in Myanmar over two years ago. Dr Yusuf is one of a small number of academics who are keeping this story alive by reminding the world that the Rohingya people are still suffering. His articles aim to explain to a lay audience the historic and contemporary context of the tensions and the political challenges to finding a solution to the crisis.
These articles, along with others he has written, have been published in The Conversation, an independent source of news and views, sourced from the academic and research community and delivered direct to the public. Dr Yusuf is now Dundee’s most prolific author on the site and his articles have been read nearly 100,000 times around the world.
In addition to the Rohingya, Dr Yusuf’s articles have covered many controversial subjects such as the conflict in Kashmir, Islamic political parties in Pakistan, Hindu nationalism in India and the Syrian civil War.
