This module explores the early military life and political ambition of young Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill. We chart his progress from the mid-1890s, following his election as Conservative MP, his defection to the Liberal Party, his rising political career as a Liberal MP for Dundee, through to political demotion, retreat from high politics, and return to military service on the Western front in November 1915.

In examining the early life and times of Winston Churchill this module will guide you through some of the most turbulent and troubling times in British imperial, political and social history before the outbreak of war in August 1914 and the early years of the First World War.
