Teaching and assessment

for Starting Creative Writing - Upskilling Module

Date of entry

May 2021

You will be taught by Sandra Ireland, a published author and MLitt graduate, whose fiction often reinterprets folklore in a contemporary way. The tutor has substantial teaching experience, in both an academic context and in lifelong learning (Lifelong Learning Dundee).

The module will be taught by weekly narrated PowerPoint lectures over 10 weeks, which will contextualise the week’s readings, relevant folkloric content, and include links to film or ballad interpretations where appropriate.

A one-hour live session will allow for seminar discussion and questions. This will provide students with the key skills required to succeed in university study.

You will be assessed by the following:

  • a 1500-word module journal, focusing on each weekly theme.
  • One creative piece from your portfolio, either prose (1500 words) or poetry (40 lines max).
