This course is structured around a series of workshops and conversations with artists, producers and cultural leaders working at the intersection of performance and placemaking. These practical sessions are complemented by critical reading and seminar discussion. We will think about the way theatre and performance specifically contribute to the cultural life of specific locations. Students will examine the role of live experiences in representing and developing community identity and think about how performance can be a tool for critical intervention.

This course is delivered over six weeks on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6.30-8pm beginning 1 June. The course is appropriate for students with a range of backgrounds, but some level of independent creative practice in performance or related fields is expected.
