Profile

Dr Saverio Spadea is a Lecturer in Structural Engineering Design at the University of Dundee and a senior member of the Italian Association of Professional Engineers (Ordine Professionale degli Ingegneri).

He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the University of Calabria (Italy) and his Ph.D. from the University of Salerno (Italy). He had post-doctoral positions at the University of Bath and University of Salerno (Italy) and spent research periods at McMaster University (Canada) and University of Miami (USA) as a visiting scientist. Dr Spadea has built productive collaborations with world-class researchers, and contributed to the development of technical guidelines and safety standards for buildings, bridges, and infrastructure both in Europe and in North America. 

Research Interests

Dr Spadea's research expertise lies in combining experimental methods with theoretical mechanics and viewing structures as complex systems. His research examines structural forms, various materials, and their impact on the environment. Dr. Spadea has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers on research related to concrete structures, innovative composite materials, and new building techniques to reduce energy consumption involved in the construction process.

In 2015, Dr Spadea was awarded the prestigious J. William Fulbright Scholarship in the category of Visiting Scholar. This gave him the opportunity to benefit from the advances in scientific and technical knowledge available in the United States in the field of composites for constructions.
