Explore the relationship between energy, environment, and climate change and how they relate to sustainability throughout all sectors in society.

This course gives you insights and skills in key areas of transition, such as energy, mining, agriculture, waste management, and the reduction of plastics in the circular economy. You will study the law, policy, and economics of energy transition across the energy cycle.

You'll learn about:

  • the promotion of renewable energy forms and the ways to reduce carbon emissions from conventional and unconventional fossil fuels
  • the social dimension of the transition to cleaner energy, which must deliver access for all, be socially just, and fair for all countries
  • environmentally and socially sustainable mining in producer countries

You will develop your ability to analyse, evaluate, and critically review theory and policy debates relating to sustainability. You will be able to draw on international perspectives and examples of best practice in relation to methods of evaluation and assessment of sustainability.

In 2015, all UN countries pledged support for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve a more prosperous future for all while protecting natural resources. This course aligns itself closely to these goals and you will have the opportunity to learn more about them during your studies.

CEPMLP has been a global voice of energy law and policy since 1977. We are now working towards the transition to low-carbon economies worldwide. With over 6,000 postgraduate alumni from more than 50 countries, we prepare our graduates for high–profile careers in the public and private sectors.

Remote internships

As part of this course you have the opportunity to undertake a remote internship in conjunction with Pagoda Projects, with host companies in destinations including China, Mexico, Vietnam and the UK. These internships offer valuable work experience and are designed to increase your cultural understanding and employability skills.

“If you are interested in environmental management, renewable energy or sustainability, there are lots of course modules to pick from. The MSc in Sustainability has given me the skills that employers look for.”
