Crime Writing and Forensic Investigation (part time) MLitt
School of Humanities
Learn with creative writing experts, as well as forensic and legal experts, exploring the roles they play in investigations
Dundee City Campus
Have you always wanted to write a crime novel? Or are you working on a fictional or non-fictional piece of writing which requires expert insight into the workings of forensic scientists, the legal system or the police?
By studying with our expert forensic scientists at our Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID) and acclaimed authors, you will be able to write knowledgeably and creatively about key aspects of crime and the law.
During this course you will have access to authoritative information about forensic science, the police and the law, and will also learn about forensic experts and the role they play in legal investigations. You will also learn the skills needed to create an imaginative piece of writing, which makes use of forensic cultures, histories, investigation and evidence.
You will be taught by staff in literature and forensic science and you will also have the opportunity to watch forensic experts being trained to give evidence as they participate in mock trials assisted by our colleagues in the University's Law School.
Scotland is fast establishing itself as a major destination for crime writing, with authors, festivals and publishers all contributing to the 'Tartan Noir' phenomenon. During your time with us, you will be part of an inspiring, imaginative community, where forensic science and creativity successfully work together.
“This course is not only inspiring and truly insightful, it is exciting, immensely engaging, and fun. The masterclasses delivered by best-selling crime novelists and editors are a must. Presentations from police officers explaining real life cases and situations are extremely helpful.”
