You can also choose from a variety of specialised modules, including:

  • corporate sustainability and ESG Law
  • international investment law
  • World Trade Organisation law
  • intellectual property law

Expertise in corporate and commercial law is more important than ever. This area of law is essential for the smooth operation of businesses. It also ensures that they fulfil their obligations to stakeholders and society.

There is an increasing demand for lawyers who have a comprehensive, deep, and critical understanding of the field. When you graduate, you may find employment in legal practice.

You can also find employment in various established or emerging industrial sectors. This can include finance, as well as government and civil society organisations.

Core modules have a corporate law focus. When you do your dissertation, this will be on a related topic.

You will study Comparative Corporate Law and Insolvency. This will provide a strong foundation of knowledge and links to other modules. It focuses on the structure and development of company law in the United Kingdom in an international context.

Our Corporate Governance module addresses the distribution of power within companies. It will also cover methods of regulating governance, governance systems across the world, auditors, and internal control. It will cover the meaning and importance of good governance.

Alongside the corporate modules, you can also select options from the School’s broad commercial law portfolio.

On the LLM Corporate and Commercial Law you may also take modules from the wide range of specialist courses at the University of Dundee’s Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law & Policy (CEPMLP) and the School of Business.

This provides opportunities for interdisciplinary learning. You can expand and develop a coherent body of knowledge and expertise in the wider field of corporate law.

“New technologies are enabling the emergence of... new types of organizations and innovative business models... Employer-employee relationships are changing. We think differently about status and ownership. Companies are witnessing the transformation from products to services... Three skills are relevant for the digital transformation: complex problem-solving, incentive-based thinking, storytelling and persuasion...”
