PhD project
Leadership Practices for Sustainability Education
30 June 2023
About the Project
At a time when the realities of globalisation and the impact of unsustainable practices are becoming increasingly observable, sustainability education is necessary to enable each of us to acquire knowledge and enact behaviours to help shape a sustainable future. Successful implementation of SE requires pro-sustainability leadership. Yet, the research surrounding leadership for sustainability education is scarce.
Scholars have developed and studied numerous leadership models for educational contexts. Whilst these models may be sufficient, the lack of research on the relevance and effectiveness of these leadership models for sustainability education is problematic. This doctoral research will form part of a larger project that ultimately aims to advance knowledge surrounding leadership practices for sustainability education. This will contrast with examining the relationship between leaders and followers in a practice. Ideally, the project would draw from practices composed of sayings, doings, and relatings that “hang together”. The empirical data would come from people engaged in leading practices from across different arenas and seek to identify effective leadership practices to progress sustainability education. We invite applications from individuals across a variety of disciplines.
