PhD project

Deep learning methods to investigate causality in longitudinal risk estimation of cardiovascular conditions from retinal images

Application deadline

31 January 2023

A collaboration with the School of Medicine of the University of Dundee and the School of Engineering of the University of Edinburgh (Prof Sotirios Tsaftaris). We aim to develop DL methods to identify causal factors of cardiovascular risk in a diabetic population, beyond establishing correlation-like associations. Rich data is available in the GoDARTS bioresources that we have used in several projects (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29025058/), including full genomic profiles, medications history, and retinal images. The project relies on the long-standing VAMPIRE initiative, providing a solid platform of expertise and software in retinal image analysis and retinal biomarkers for systemic conditions.
