Biography

Kateryna Oliynyk holds a BSc and a MSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Perugia (Italy) graduated in 2016. During her Master's project she has studied the seismic performance of diaphragm walls in saturated coarse-grained soils, using advanced constitutive models capable of capturing soil liquefaction. Kateryna joined the School of Science and Engineering in Dundee to pursue a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering. Her research project focuses on theoretical and numerical modeling of thermo-hydro-mechanical behavior of structured soils in finite deformations. To this end, she has developed a constitutive model for natural soils and weak rocks based on the multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient, extending the basic principles of the theory of hyperplasticity to the geometric non-linear regime. The model has been implemented into a PFEM code for the solution of practical geotechnical problems.
