Biography

Joshua Norrie received his HND in Civil Engineering at Dundee and Angus College in 2016 before completing a BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering at Abertay University in 2018 and an MSc in Civil Engineering at the University of Dundee in 2019. He gained industry experience working for clients, contractors, and design consultants on major transport infrastructure projects during internships and academic placements and whilst practicing as a graduate engineer.

Joshua returned to the University of Dundee in 2020 to pursue a PhD in Civil Engineering under the supervision of Dr Michael McCarthy, which is joint sponsored by the Scottish Research Partnership in Engineering (SRPe) and the UK Quality Ash Association (UKQAA). His research project focuses on evaluating the engineering and durability performance of binary cement concretes containing long-term wet sorted fly ash and ternary cement concretes containing fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag. The project aims to transform construction by developing practical and economic low carbon cements, for use in a range of applications, while potentially extending the service life of infrastructure.  The project outcomes can contribute to Standards developments, covering construction related issues, design, material selection and durability.
