Biography

Gianandrea is giving courses in Business Analytics and Microeconomics, at undergraduate and TPG levels. He completed his Ph.D. at International Doctorate in Economic Analysis) programme of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. His teaching experience also includes several courses delivered at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, University of Barcelona, University College of London in various subjects, including advanced and innovative courses in microeconomics and macroeconomics, as well as statistics and mathematics for economic analysis.

He published economics research in Public Choice, Global Competition Review, Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organisation, Economics Letters, Journal of Behavioural and Experimental Economics and the European Journal of Health Economics, as well as a chapter in the reference book “Cases in European Competition Policy: the Economic Analysis”.

He previously worked for the Financial Conduct Authority, economics consultancies and for the Catalan government. He delivered cost-benefit analysis, impact assessment for EU-policies and contributed to the design of policies to reduce the risk of consumer detriment in markets for credit and pension products.

Research

Gianandrea has published research papers in peer-reviewed journals such as Public Choice, Global Competition Review, Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organisation, Economics Letters, Journal of Behavioural and Experimental Economics and the European Journal of Health Economics, as well as a book chapter in the reference book “Cases in European Competition Policy: the Economic Analysis” on the competition economics analysis of the attempted merger between General Electric and Honeywell.

Impact and Knowledge Exchange

At the Chief Economist Department of the Financial Conduct Authority, Gianandrea delivered several Cost-Benefit Analyses on FCA interventions, contributed to the design of policies to reduce the risk of consumer detriment in markets for credit and pension products, developed the FCA methodology and provided training for the assessment of impact on business in compliance with the Enterprise Act.

His previous experience as an applied economist in consultancies and governments includes the development of microeconomic analysis of social and economic impacts, evidence review, data analysis, project management, write-up and presentations of interim and final reports in several projects for the European Commission and other national and international institutions.
